Oita Prefecture is located in the northeastern part of the Kyushu region. The capital is Oita-shi. The neighboring prefectures are Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Miyazaki. The climate is mild however, it can be harsh and snowy in the winter in the inland areas.
The prefecture is home to many famous hot springs such as Beppu Onsen and Yufuin Onsen. Because it has the largest number of hot springs in Japan, Oita is called "Onsen (hot springs) Prefecture".
