Gifu Living Guide

Gifu Prefecture is located in the Chubu region in Honshu. The capital is Gifu-shi. It is an inland prefecture not facing the sea, and is bordered by Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Nagano, Aichi, Mie and Shiga prefectures.

Gifu is surrounded by rich nature, and the climate differs greatly between the Hida region in the north and the Mino region in the south.

The Hida and Okumino districts are surrounded by mountains that rise to almost 3000 meters, and the temperature difference between the highest and lowest points is significant.

It is cool and pleasant in the summer, while it is cold and snowy in the winter with temperatures frequently falling below freezing. The Mino region in the south is relatively warm and there is a lot of precipitation in the summer. Summer temperatures in the Mino region and the southern part of Hida exceed 40 degrees Celsius on occasion.

For tourist destinations, The Gasshozukuri village of Shirakawa-go and Gero Onsen are popular.
